At GS Hockey Academy, we’re dedicated to shaping tomorrow’s hockey stars. Our mission is simple: develop young players through expert coaching and innovative training, instilling not just skills but also character, teamwork, and a love for the game.  

MEET THE Coaches

Michael Tucciarone

Coach Mike grew up playing his minor hockey in Richmond Hill Ontario. His Junior hockey career began with the Stoufville Spirit where he played two seasons (99′-01′) averaging well over a point per game as a forward. His second season in the OPJHL (now OJHL) saw him chalk up 70 points in 49 games, an impressive season that landed him an NCAA offer at the Rochester Institute of Technology Division 1 hockey program. In his four years at RIT (01′ – 05′), Coach Mike recorded 114 points in 85 games, with his best season averaging 2.4 points per game. Following his collegiate career he played two seasons for the Austin Ice Bats of the CHL where he recorded 88 points in two years. Today, Coach Mike is a father of three and in addition to teaching at GS Hockey he coaches his eldest sons Richmond Hill Jaguars minor hockey team as the forward coach.

Sergei Frenkel

Coach Sergei grew up playing minor hockey in the GTHL. His junior career sprouted in the OPJHL (now OJHL), where he played four seasons  split between the Thornhill Rattlers, Mississauga Chargers, and Vaughn Vipers. After Junior, Sergei played in the CIS for Ryerson University and graduated with a double major in Business. During his time playing in the OPJHL and  Canadian Interuniversity Sports league (now USports), he also represented the National team of Israeli at the World Hockey Championships (IIHF) from 2001-2023 and is still an active player of the team. Sergei, currently holds the record for most international games played, most goals, assists, and points. Signifying his legacy playing for his home nation, Coach Sergei actively participates in charitable events across North America to bring awareness and to promote the development of Hockey in Israel. Today, Coach Sergei is a father of four boys who all play minor hockey for the Richmond Hill Jaguars hockey association.

Taciano Foti

Coach Tac began his minor hockey career playing six years for the AAA Richmond Hill Coyotes. From 2021-2023 he played forward for the Markham Majors AAA team, where he helped carry them to an OHL cup appearance in his draft year. Today, he currently plays for the York Simcoe Express U18 AAA team where he’s recorded 19 points in 24 games. Outside of his hockey career Coach Tac has been coaching for three years through GS Hockey Academy as well as his own private lessons. 

Griffin Butler

Coach Griff grew up playing minor hockey for the AAA Markham Waxers from 2010 – 2015. In the years that followed, he played defence for the Richmond Hill Coyotes AAA team from 2016-2018. Coach Griff began his coaching career in 2021 where he was the defence coach for the U14 Richmond Hill Coyotes AAA. Currently, he is an assistant coach for the U12 AA Richmond Hill Jaguars, where he has been for two years.
